FREWSBURG, N.Y.: -- The Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Committee will be holding its 19th Annual Workers’ Memorial Day on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Site at Erlandson Overview Park on Oak Hill Road in Frewsburg, N.Y.
Workers’ Memorial Day is a day of remembering all of the men and women from Chautauqua County who have lost their lives on the job, in the line of duty, or died from job related causes. This year’s ceremony will recognize over 140 individuals who have passed away since the 1880s.
The event is free and open to the public. This year’s event will feature a variety of speakers including keynote speaker Rose Conti, former President of the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Unit 6300.
The ceremony will also include a special dedication of a park bench in honor of Florence “Flo” Tripi, former Western New York President of the Civil Service Employees Association, who passed away last year. There will also be remembrance of John “Mac” Nelson, who was a long time Fredonia State Professor, author and labor leader.
The Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Site is made possible through the cooperation of Chautauqua County Government, Chautauqua County Parks Commission, local labor organizations, and by donations from supporters.
